January 2026, London

HANetf, Europe’s first and leading white-label UCITS ETF and ETC platform[1], is delighted to announce the launch of its latest Thematic & Active Review.

The Review, published twice a year, takes a deep dive into thematic and active investing trends, and includes commentary from HANetf’s expert partners, as well as a pan-European survey of wealth managers, performance analysis, industry news, and more.

The latest survey of wealth managers from across Europe found that 98% view income generation as important or essential to their portfolios, with the majority (78%) targeting 3-5% yields. Europe’s options based ETF market more than tripled across 2025 as investors looked to these strategies for regular income.[2]

When asked which income strategies they would be interested in increasing exposure to, the most popular answer was preferred shares (40%) followed by catastrophe bonds (28%). In 2025, HANetf launched ETFs providing exposure to both these instruments: Infrastructure Capital Preferred Income UCITS ETF (ticker: PFFI) and KRC Cat Bond UCITS ETF (ticker: CATB).

Meanwhile, 92% of investors reported they planned to increase their allocation to active ETFs over the next 12 months, with the majority (68%) stating that they would be most likely to consider active fixed income strategies. Assets in European active ETFs grew over 86% in 2025, beating the 68% growth seen in 2024 – HANetf now has 21 active strategies on its platform, the third-largest range in Europe.[3]

The survey also asked for investors’ attitudes towards various themes and commodities. Respondents were bullish (72%) on defence and cybersecurity. For the Review, HANetf’s Head of Research Tom Bailey contributed an article positing that defence investing can be responsible – a notion that 80% of survey respondents agreed with.

Investors were also bullish (82%) on uranium. Jacob White of Sprott Asset Management explains in his article for the Review why physical uranium, and uranium miners, could make waves in 2026.

Elsewhere in the Review, we cover Canadia’s equity income leaders, preferred shares, responsibly sourced physical gold and gold miners, an active approach to travel, and more.

Hector McNeil, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of HANetf, commented: “We are delighted to be launching the latest edition of our Thematic & Active Review. These biannual publications contain expert commentary from our fund partners, exclusive survey results, and performance data. This is a unique offering, drawing on the collective knowledge and experience of HANetf’s white-label clients from around the world, rather than providing an in-house only view.

“The survey results demonstrate that investor interest in options based ETFs is growing apace, which is underscored by the fact that AUM in these products more than tripled last year. HANetf now has 7 covered call products on the platform, and there are more to come.

“At the same time, Europe’s active story continues to gain momentum. After assets in European active ETFs grew 68% in 2024, 2025 saw further growth of 86%. We now have 21 active strategies on our platform – the third most in Europe – and we expect to become a leading issuer of active ETFs in the coming months.

“This trend has been reflected in the enquiries we have received around launching new products in Europe. As a white-label issuer, we attract asset managers from across the globe who are looking to make their ETF ideas a reality – the type of product they want to launch can act as a barometer for market sentiment. We have seen a substantial rise in enquiries around active and options based ETFs in the past year, so all signs suggest that these spaces will see significant growth in the coming years.”
