The ETF provides exposure to a systematic covered call strategy combining the Nasdaq-100 with the sale of very short-dated call options. It aims to generate income from option premiums while allowing investors to participate in some of the underlying index’s growth.

Covered call strategies aim to generate income by selling call options against an underlying investment exposure. In return for receiving an option premium, the seller gives up gains above an agreed level, known as the strike price, for the life of the option. This creates a trade-off between generating income and participating in rising markets.

The new ETF applies this approach through options typically expiring after one day, with expiries ranging from one to five days depending on availability. As existing options expire, the strategy sells new calls, creating repeated opportunities to collect premiums and reset the level above which gains are forgone.

The strategy sets strike prices systematically, using the Nasdaq-100’s level and implied volatility, a measure of the price fluctuations anticipated by the options market. By selling out-of-the-money calls, with strike prices above the prevailing index level, it leaves room for the Nasdaq-100 to rise before the options begin to limit gains.

This approach seeks to retain more upside than covered call strategies selling options closer to the prevailing index level.

Frequent expiries also allow the strategy to reset its options more regularly than approaches using weekly or monthly contracts. This reduces the time spent committed to a particular strike price as markets move, although it does not eliminate the risk of missing gains during a rally. More frequent option trading can also increase transaction costs.

The Nasdaq-100 provides the underlying equity exposure. Volatility in the index can support option premiums, offering an income opportunity alongside exposure to its constituent companies. Higher volatility also brings greater investment risk, and the strategy remains exposed to falls in the index.

The strategy uses European-style, cash-settled Nasdaq-100 index options. These can only be exercised at expiry and settle through a cash payment, avoiding the need to deliver the underlying shares.
This is the 10th options based ETF launched on the HANetf platform, and the total AUM in these products is now at $247.88 million having more than doubled in 2026. In Europe year-to-date, options based ETFs have seen $4.13 billion in net flows and now represent over $11.60 billion assets under management (AUM), demonstrating the rapid growth of the space.

Hector McNeil, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of HANetf, commented:

“We’re delighted to have the HAN Nasdaq-100 Daily Covered Call UCITS ETF on our platform, expanding the choice available to investors looking to combine equity exposure with an option income strategy. This is the first of its kind with daily options expiries.

“Covered call investing involves balancing the premium received against the potential growth given up. This ETF approaches that balance through very short-dated options and strike prices that adjust systematically with market volatility. The aim is to create regular opportunities to generate option premiums while leaving room for participation in Nasdaq-100 growth.

“As investors look more closely at how different option income strategies work, we believe there is value in offering a clear, rules-based approach. This launch adds another way to access the Nasdaq-100 through the UCITS ETF structure, with a distinct approach to managing the trade-off between income and upside participation.”
