November 2025, London

HANetf, Europe’s first and leading white-label UCITS ETF and ETC platform,[3] is delighted to announce the launch of Future of Defence Screened UCITS ETF (ticker: NATE).

NATE aims to provide exposure to companies benefiting from rising NATO member defence and cyber defence spending, with strict screening. For investors looking for a tighter screened approach to defence, the ETF offers the opportunity to gain SFDR Article 8 defence exposure[4] – and no exposure to controversial weapons.

Constituents are limited to companies headquartered in NATO member states – countries which are bound by mutual defence commitments, democratic accountability, and established arms export controls.

The ETF is initially listed on Xetra and Borsa Italiana, with London Stock Exchange and SIX to follow.

This is HANetf’s second defence ETF to be classified as Article 8 under SFDR, after the Future of European Defence UCITS ETF (ticker: ARMY) became the first Article 8 defence ETF in Europe this year.

It has been a consequential year for the NATO alliance – following the record $2.7 trillion spent on defence in 2024, NATO members have now agreed to raise defence spending to the equivalent of 5% of GDP by 2035.[5] This is more than double the previous target of 2%, which many NATO members had already been failing to meet for years.

Clearly, geopolitical shocks such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and the ongoing crises in the Middle East, have acted as a wakeup call for the alliance. The stage is set for substantial increases to defence spending, and more contracts for key defence companies.

HANetf brings a deep track record in defence thematics, and has Europe’s broadest range of defence ETFs – including Future of Defence UCITS ETF (ticker: NATO), now at 3.13 billion AUM.[6]. HANetf’s full range of defence ETFs is listed below:

Hector McNeil, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of HANetf, commented: “We’re delighted to be launching Future of Defence Screened UCITS ETF (ticker: NATE), our second Article 8 defence ETF after we recently brought Europe’s first Article 8 defence ETF to market. We’re always looking to innovate, and these ETFs underscore that – investors now have the opportunity to gain defence ETF with tighter screens which some more investors have asked for.

“Investors increasingly recognise that security and sustainability are not opposing forces – they are interlinked. A well-equipped and responsibly governed defence sector is essential to maintaining peace, stability and the rule of law.

“With a more focus, screened defence ETF, we aim to give investors confidence that their capital supports NATO defence capabilities while adhering to robust responsibility standards. Importantly, these enhancements also make the ETF more accessible to investors in regions where exposure to certain defence-related activities has previously been restricted from a legal and regulatory perpsective, widening the opportunity to participate in the growth of defence.

“HANetf offers Europe’s most comprehensive suite of defence ETFs. As ever, our aim is to deliver forward-thinking investment solutions that align with both the goals and values of our investors – and we believe our defence range does exactly that.”
