When you invest in ETFs your capital is at risk.
HANetf, Europe’s first and leading white-label UCITS ETF and ETC platform,[1] is delighted to announce the launch of Arrow Bitcoin EUR Hedged ETC (ticker: EBTC) and Arrow Bitcoin GBP Hedged ETC (ticker: GBTC). The currency hedging will be provided by HSBC.

The new range of euro (EUR) and sterling (GBP) hedged Bitcoin ETCs is designed to give investors exposure to Bitcoin while reducing the impact of currency movements against the US dollar. Investors in both Europe and the UK will now be able to gain exposure in their local currency.
These are the world’s first currency hedged crypto ETCs, bringing a new currency hedged structure to the European crypto ETC market.
Investor interest in crypto ETCs has grown rapidly, with around $12 billion in crypto-tracking ETC assets in Europe and around $100 billion in the US.[2] But Bitcoin trades globally in US dollars, meaning European and UK investors can be exposed not only to the price of Bitcoin, but also to movements in the dollar. For euro and sterling investors, a weaker US dollar can reduce local-currency returns, even when Bitcoin has risen in dollar terms.
Many investors may want exposure to Bitcoin without taking an additional view on the US dollar. The new hedged Bitcoin ETCs are designed to address this issue by giving investors a more precise way to access Bitcoin, while reducing the impact of EUR/USD or GBP/USD exchange rate movements.
This is similar to the issue investors already face with gold. Like Bitcoin, gold is also priced in US dollars, meaning European investors can also take on dollar exposure when investing in the asset. Currency-hedged gold ETCs are already well-established in Europe, accounting for around $23 billion of European gold ETC assets, or approximately 13% of the market.[3] HANetf has previously listed euro, Swiss Franc and sterling-hedged versions of The Royal Mint Responsibly Sourced Physical Gold ETC (ticker: RMAU).
The new launches are designed to give investors greater choice in how they access Bitcoin, offering a tool that helps separate crypto asset exposure from dollar exposure. The products may appeal to investors seeking long-term exposure to Bitcoin, but who want returns to be less affected by potential dollar weakness against the euro or sterling.
HANetf has a strong track record in crypto ETCs, having previously partnered on the launch of Bitwise Physical Bitcoin ETP (ticker: BTCE) in June 2020, the world’s first centrally cleared Bitcoin ETP. HANetf also launched Europe’s first leveraged and short cryptocurrency ETPs in Europe last year.
“With these launches, we are bringing the established logic of currency-hedged ETFs to the crypto market. Investors have long understood that currency movements can have a meaningful impact on returns on different asset classes, for example gold. Similar to gold, Bitcoin is priced in US dollars, meaning European and UK investors can end up taking two views at once: a view on Bitcoin itself and a view on the dollar. There is currently over $300bn of AUM in currency hedged ETFs and ETCs in Europe and currency hedged crypto ETCs are conspicuous by their absence. HANetf and its clients are on a continual innovation curve and this is one more milestone on this journey.”
“The launch reflects the continued maturation and mainstreaming of the crypto ETP market. As crypto adoption grows, investors are likely to focus more closely on how their exposure is structured, including currency risk. These products are designed to give investors a more precise way to access Bitcoin. Crypto exposure should not have to mean taking an unintended dollar view. European investors have billions invested in currency hedged ETPs across equities, bonds and commodities so it is inevitable it will come to crypto. HANetf is pleased to bring another product platform first to the global ETP market.”
