HANetf looks to 2023 with its Thematic & Digital Assets Review; including exclusive survey of 100 wealth managers

Of those surveyed 89% expect investors to increase their exposure to gold over the next 12 months. In the review Eric Strand fund manager for the AuAg Gold Mining UCITS ETF (ESGO) argues that gold will reach “a new all-time high in 2023”.

Moreover 4 out of 5 wealth managers surveyed expect institutional investors to place more focus on the responsibility and sustainability of the gold they invest in over the next two years. Last year The Royal Mint Responsibly Sourced Physical Gold ETC (RMAU) became 100% backed by LBMA responsibly sourced gold bars of which a large portion are backed by 100% recycled gold bars.

Recycled gold is 90%+ less carbon intensive than mined gold allowing investors to access gold in a more sustainable way. Many sustainable investors who would not consider gold ETCs previously are now using RMAU due to its ESG credentials as evidenced by the ETC reaching $791 million in AUM by the end of last year an increase of 185% across 2022.

More generally 81% of the wealth managers said that they expect to see increased investment in ETFs over the next 12 months with 87% reporting increased investment in ETFs in 2022.
