Market moves – Bitcoin and Ethereum performance.

Bitcoin fell -7.23% in August. Short Bitcoin strategies may have benefitted from the movements, while the pullback highlights how quickly volatility can amplify losses for leveraged long positions. That said, with Bitcoin still up year-to-date, the dip could present a tactical entry point.

Ethereum gained 16.23%, strongly outperforming both Bitcoin and the broader market. This momentum would have favoured long Ethereum positions – accordingly, our 2x Long Ethereum ETP took the majority share of trading volumes in August (see adjacent chart).

August underscores how these ETPs can magnify both gains and losses. Sharp price moves, even over short periods, can have outsized effects – making volatility, short-term direction, and market catalysts key considerations when deciding between long or short exposure. Leveraged strategies are typically best suited to shorter holding periods, with clearly defined risk limits and exit points.

Copper is increasingly recognised as one of the most important resources of the 21st century. The U.S. Department of Energy has added it to its critical materials list, while the EU now classifies it as a strategic raw material. Policymakers are even considering building strategic reserves. Under the Trump administration, tariffs have already been applied to U.S. copper imports.

Investors’ capital is at risk, and they may not recover the amount originally invested; independent advice should be sought before making any investment decision. Any decision to invest should be based on the information in the prospectus and relevant Final Terms. Cryptocurrencies can be highly volatile, and while the Underlying Assets aim to track the proposed investment objective, performance is not guaranteed by the issuer. Investing in long leveraged cryptocurrency products carries the risk of magnified losses if the daily performance declines, making them high-risk. Investors in short and leveraged ETPs should understand leverage, daily rebalancing, and compounded daily returns. If the ETP holds an Underlying Asset with a premium or discount (i.e., a difference between its market price and NAV), changes in this premium or discount may negatively impact returns. Over any period longer than a day, the compounded daily leverage return may differ—sometimes significantly—from the intended leverage factor. Investors should frequently monitor the ETP’s performance in light of their investment goals and risk tolerance and only use these ETPs if they can monitor their positions daily or intraday.
