Crypto Monthly Report | January

Macro Outlook

December was a decent month for cryptoassets. In general, cryptoassets outperformed other traditional assets such as equities by a wide margin in December. More specifically, the ETC Group Physical Bitcoin ETC (BTCE) returned 12.3% and the ETC Group Physical Ethereum ETC (ZETH) returned 14.45% last month.

The crypto markets were generally buoyed by the prospects of a spot Bitcoin ETF approval in the US which is expected to happen in January.

December wraps up the year 2023 with a remarkable performance for cryptoassets which we expect to repeat in 2024 as well. The confluence of the upcoming ETF approval, Bitcoin Halving as well as a potential reversal in US monetary policy promise to be significant tailwinds for Bitcoin and cryptoassets in 2024.

We have recently published our ETC Group 2024 Outlook report where you can read more about the prospects for cryptoassets in 2024. Read more here.

Back tested data does not represent actual performance and should not be interpreted as an indication of actual or future performance. Past performance for the index is in USD. Past performance is not an indicator for future results and should not be the sole factor of consideration when selecting a product.
